Paul and Leona owe Bella an outstanding debt for her heroic deed that can never be repaid.
In a true story of heroism, a domestic cat from Florida saved the lives of its elderly owners from carbon monoxide poisoning. The couple, Paul and Leona Jones, had gone to a restaurant for dinner. They had to return in the middle of a torrential downpour.
In their haste to get out of the car, the couple didn’t do the most important thing: they didn’t turn off the engine.
The couple only learned about their mistake at night, when the home was full of carbon monoxide eight hours later. All that time, the car had been running and emitting carbon monoxide, which had managed to enter the house.
Paul and Leona were already sound asleep and likely would have died of carbon monoxide poisoning if not for their cat Bella.
The furry little hero crawled under the bed, crying and meowing loudly. This woke Paul up first, who was already having difficulty breathing due to his extended inhalation of the deadly gas.
He pulled Bella out from under the bed and immediately lost consciousness. Fortunately, Leona woke up in the other room after hearing the cat and could get to the phone and call 911. Even though frail, she managed to stay conscious long enough of making the call.
The family could not evacuate the house alone, but they were lucky that firefighters arrived quickly. The firefighters provided oxygen for the couple and their cat before taking them to the hospital.
Thanks to Bella’s screams and cries, Paul and Leona Jones were saved from sudden death! The brave couple is recovering in the hospital and looking forward to returning home. As for their beloved cat Bella, she has been rewarded with a new basket of treats and plenty of cuddles!
