It is the story of a brave dog who fought off a mountain lion to protect his family.
Ella, a Labrador retriever from Cedar Hills, Utah, was playing outside in the backyard with children when she noticed a mountain lion lurking nearby.
“Ella repeatedly alternated between looking at the kids and quickly scanning her surroundings,” Michaelis said. “She was vigilant, but my daughter found it creepy.”
Michaelis took her children inside eventually. When they returned to the patio door, Ella had significant cuts on different parts of her body, such as her head, face, legs, tongue, and neck.
“Ella was soaked in blood when we opened the back door.”
Ella bravely fought off the mountain lion despite her injuries and protected her family. She sustained severe cuts to her head, face, legs, tongue, and neck.
Ella is currently recovering from her injuries and receiving much-deserved love and attention from her grateful family. Her bravery reminds us of the protection and loyalty our furry friends can provide.
The family was not present during the fight, but Utah Division of Wildlife Resources officials discovered mountain lion tracks which led to where the altercation had occurred.
Wildlife officials communicated that it’s possible the mountain lion was fixated on some goats in a neighbor’s yard and came too close to the Michaelis’ home.
Ella’s bravery and determination to protect her family remind us of the loyalty and protection our furry friends can provide. She receives love and attention from her grateful family as she recovers from her injuries.
Let this be a lesson always to keep an eye on your pets and be aware of any potential dangers in your surroundings. Our furry friends may surprise us with their bravery and strength when needed.
