Lucinda, a kind 13-year-old, saved 14 kittens in one night last week. How did it happen?
While driving home on the Moonee Ponds Creek Track, Lucinda noticed several kittens crossing her path. She decided to stop and pick them up.
“They were so tiny and scared!” — Lucinda said of the kittens. “When I saw them, it looked like they didn’t have a home. They were drenched and shaking from the rain, so without thinking any further; I ran home to get a laundry basket to bring them inside. I was glad that I could help them. But when I returned to pick them up, I found nine more cats had appeared”.
Lucinda didn’t stop there. She called the Lort Smith Veterinary Hospital and asked for advice on what to do next. The kind-hearted staff at the hospital encouraged Lucinda to bring the kittens in.
“A kind person decided to gift me $50 for my birthday a few weeks ago, so I did what any pet-lover would do and used it on a taxi to take my kittens to the vet,” – she said.
The hospital praised Lucinda for her compassion and care for animals. The Lort Smith Hospital found homes for all 14 kittens, and Lucinda is a hero. That shows that even the youngest among us can make a difference in the lives of animals.
Don’t hesitate to lend a helping hand if you see an animal in need. You could make all the difference in the world!
Lucinda’s story shows that the best children are raised to love and respect animals. Her act was done out of selflessness and love, and she should inspire us all.
