When 3-month-old pit bull puppy Sage arrived at the Humane Society of Tampa Bay (HSTB) after a good Samaritan spotted her eating garbage at a local cemetery, she had a metal chain embedded in her neck.
The friendly puppy ran up to the woman, and she noticed the chain. It was impossible to watch this spectacle without crying. The puppy looked very bad. It is hard to imagine the person who did this to the poor animal.
The medical team examined Sage, who was wagging her tail all the time, and prepared her for surgery to remove the chain in her neck.
“In addition to the chain, we noticed that Sage has skin problems and overgrown nails. We can not imagine who would do this to her,”—the shelter wrote.
Dozens of people offered to foster or expressed interest in adopting the sweet girl when she recovered, and one of those people was Dave Bautista. Even though Dave looks like a tough guy, he melted at the sight of the little puppy running towards him.
Dave was outraged that somebody could mistreat an innocent puppy and said he would hand over $5000 cash to the person who provided information about this criminal.
But what mattered was that Sage, now renamed Penny by Dave, got a second chance at life with her new loving family. She will never have to worry about being neglected again and will always be provided with love, care, and all the goodies she could ever need, thanks to her famous dad. Dave is grateful for the opportunity to give Penny the life she deserves and says she has filled his heart with joy.
The actor frequently shares updates on his Instagram page, showing Penny enjoying hikes, cuddling up with Dave, and just being a happy pup.

Pit bulls often have a negative stereotype, but stories like Penny’s remind us of their potential to be loving companions when given a chance. This story serves as a reminder of the importance of spaying and neutering pets and the value of adopting from shelters and rescues.
