Keds is my miracle cat. Twelve years ago, I found him at my apartment door almost dead. He couldn’t even lift his head. I took him to the vet and was told twice to put him down, but I refused.
He had two serious diseases: FIV (feline AIDS) and hemobartonella.
The vet gave him a blood transfusion, and he stayed in intensive care for several days, suffering from seizures and being unable to lift his head. However, on the fourth day, he sat up and started eating.
We took him back to the vet to neuter him, and then he became an indoor kitten. He shook his head a little bit from side to side, but we couldn’t tell if there was any brain damage. I’m keeping a close eye on him for now in case of any illness.
He was diagnosed with stomatitis three years ago, and a year ago, we did a complete tooth extraction. He did not recover from that so quickly, and it was scary. It was a frightening time for us, but he bounced back and continued to be playful and snuggly. I’m afraid even to think what I would do without my cat if I had listened to the vets and put him down.
But despite all his health challenges, Keds continues to amaze me with his resilience and determination to live a happy life. He is still playful and affectionate, snuggling and hugging me every day. His survival against all odds is nothing short of miraculous, and I am grateful for every day I get to spend with him. He is my little fighter, and I can’t imagine my life without him.
He mainly eats soft food but still likes to gum his hard food. Keds is a constant reminder to never give up on the ones you love and always to trust your gut instincts. His resilience and zest for life continue to inspire me every day.
