Carol Hazeman had always been a cat lover. So when she was dying, her last wish was to meet some kittens. Thankfully, the hospice workers at Groves Community Hospice in Kansas City made her wish come true!
Last Monday, they took five six-week-old kittens to visit Heisman.
She smiled and said, “look at all these cute little guys,” as the kittens tried to crawl out of the basket. Each kitten was wrapped in a baby blanket, and Heisman held them close. One even managed to pass over her shoulders. It was a touching moment for everyone involved. Thanks to the hospice workers, Carol Hazeman’s last wish was fulfilled.
The SPCA recalls, “We didn’t just bring one kitten for cuddling; we brought an entire basket-full!”
It must have been a special moment for Carol Hazeman in her final days. It shows that the Groves Community Hospice’s hospice workers genuinely care about their patients and fulfill their wishes.
The hospice center has been striving to make the residents’ wishes come true through its “Happiness is” project.
Rhonda Sullivan, GC Hospice’s community relations coordinator, explained that most requests have been relatively simple. She is fulfilling a request from one resident who wants to hear classical piano music.
“We want to make their final days as comfortable and enjoyable as possible,” Sullivan said.
And it seems they are succeeding if Carol Hazeman’s reaction to the kittens is any indication. Thanks to their efforts, she could enjoy quality time with some fuzzy little kittens before passing away. We’re sure she left this world with a smile on her face.
