There once was a cat named Winslow who loved to eat. A lot. So much so that he became pretty overweight. His veterinarian told his owner, Kate Nyx, that she needed to put him on a diet – but with one unique condition.
Nyx said that she started splitting her cat’s meals into tiny parts. She began playing music while he ate to get Winslow to eat less. For this, She used her little piano.
“He would strike the keys and then glance under to see where the sound was coming from,” Nyx said.
Winslow quickly learned that when he heard music, it meant he could ‘earn’ food. “That’s how he got into playing the piano.”
As a result, Winslow became an avid pianist. Perhaps a little too enthusiastic. Nyx’s house is rarely without the sound of a cat on the piano these days.
“Now He plays all the time!” Nyx stated. Nyx pointed out, “He used to press the keys once or twice merely, and now he can play strings of notes without issue.”
“He sure loves his dramas,” Nyx remarked. “I think the music soothes him and makes him feel good, which in turn makes him want to play more,” she said.
Interestingly, all of Winslow’s piano work has significantly improved his playing. His mother’s perspective has made the lovely cat much more charming.
“Someone once asked me if I ever wish he would hold back on the playing a little bit?” I thought for a moment. “I have to admit; there are times. I’m still happy that he has my musical talent.”
So, the next time you see a cat playing the piano, you’ll know that it may be a Winslow in disguise – a prodigy pianist with love for food.
Who knows – maybe Winslow will be the next prominent classical pianist! We’ll be sure to keep an eye on this talented little kitty.
