If you have a pet, then, indeed, you can name a couple or three of its quirks. Unless it’s a fish because it’s hard to imagine what kind of weirdness a fish can have. Swimming upside down? That’s one way to look at it.
Recently we were told a story where the cat had so many strange things that it was impossible to remember them all.
One morning Oliver was on his way to work as usual. On his way, he saw two mongrels chasing a kitten up a tree. The man dispersed the dogs and started trying to get the kitten out of the tree, but as if he didn’t want to inconvenience the man: he jumped right into my arms. Oliver took the kitten home.
He showed wonders of inadequacy from the beginning, but at first, the man attributed it to his incredible start in life. His sleep was quite interesting: he could sleep, abruptly jump up and start running, then just as suddenly fall asleep again. Imagine: a cat runs from one corner to another, grabs some on-the-way wrappers, does a somersault, and then, lying on his back, falls asleep for two hours.
To counterbalance this activity, he sometimes awakened a patient observer: sometimes, he would sit in some corner with a great view of Oliver and sit like that for two or three hours, looking at him. A couple of times, his glistening eyes startled Oliver in the dark.
He liked to say hello to everyone in his very effective style: as soon as he heard someone knocking or Oliver came with someone else, he climbed on a cabinet in the hall, and as soon as the new person passed by that cabinet, he jumped on his head. Several times the cat spoiled Oliver’s evening so severely, after which the man learned to disarm this “trap.”
We could write legends about his tastes: vegetables are his friends. And he liked vegetables that were often unripe, especially tomatoes and zucchini. He was an unbelievable cat, of course.
And then he started tagging territory, wandering through the cats in the yard, after which Oliver realized that it was time to take the cat to the vet for the most common procedure for cats. But here, too, he has managed to surprise Oliver.
A couple of weeks after this procedure, Oliver heard the cat scratching at the door (so he was begging to come home from the street). The man opens the door, and with a calm look and a blind kitten in his teeth, he walks to the corner of the room, lays down, and starts to raise him. For a moment, Oliver even thought that his cat had tried to nurse his kitten.
The cat has been gone for several years, but Oliver remembers everything about it because it was charged with emotions during its life.
