In the city of San Antonio, Texas, there is a cat who has made headlines all over the world. This is not because he is a particularly remarkable cat – quite the contrary. Samuel was kept in a carrier by his cruel owner for three years, resulting in many health problems. But thanks to the efforts of Leslie from the SAPCR rescue group and Brian – the man who adopted him – Samuel has finally begun to recover.
When Leslie first met Samuel, she was shocked by his condition. The cat was emaciated, suffering from anemia, kidney and liver problems, bad teeth, corneal ulcers, and scabies. In other words, he was in dire need of help.
The first thing that had to be done was to get Samuel out of the carrier. The cat had been kept in such a small space for so long that he had lost the ability to walk correctly and was terrified of anything new. So, Leslie and her team had to start from scratch, teaching Samuel how to walk and how navigate in strange places.
Fortunately, Samuel is a fearless cat and quickly starts to respond to treatment. Gradually, he began to gain weight, and his vision started to recover.
However, even after all of his physical problems had been resolved, Samuel still had a lot of mental healing to do. He was terrified of all visitors to the center and would hide whenever someone came near him.
But then, one day, Brian came to the shelter. He had recently lost his cat to cancer and was looking to adopt another. For some reason, he and Samuel just clicked. Gradually, through several visits, Brian won over the trust of the little cat.
Today, Samuel is finally living the life he deserves. He has a loving home, plenty of toys to play with, and, most importantly, he knows he is loved.
I feel so bad for those animals whose owners do such horrible things to them. How can you do this to a helpless animal? Thankfully, people like Leslie and Brian are willing to go the extra mile to help animals in need. Samuel proves that even the most complex cases can have a happy ending.
