Valentino, a cat with a sad story, was brought to a Los Angeles shelter. He had multiple skin ulcers and blood clots on his face that made him blind. The shelter staff was afraid to go near or touch him without a doctor’s examination, suspecting he had infectious ticks.
He sat so still: without attention and warmth. Alone.
That day, Elaine Simans, a designer who helps the shelter on a volunteer basis, came by. The woman walked past Valentino’s cage in the hallway and heard the cat meow pitifully.
He reached out his little paw and mewed softly. It was like a cry for help, spoken without words. Elaine Simans took Valentino in her arms, even without gloves, to which the cat responded with tenderness and affection.
“When I picked him up, he put his little head on my shoulder. It was something. I knew I had to help him, “- said the woman.
It turned out that the cat’s illness was not contagious – Valentino has a low glucose level, and bacteria multiply on his skin, causing microcracks. The doctors inject glucose into him artificially, prescribe a course of antibiotics, and increase nutrition.
Despite his challenges, everyone who meets Valentino falls in love with him. Those close to him do everything they can to keep him safe and comfortable.
They are sure that shortly Valentino will recover and find new owners. After all, he has already won the hearts of many people.
Valentino is on the road to recovery, and his story reminds us that we should never give up on those in need. Thanks to Elaine Simans, Valentino finally has a chance at a happy life.
She was the only one not afraid of the terrible look and possible illness – at that moment, she was thinking with her heart. She just wanted to ease the cat’s suffering with her love. That’s all it needed…
