When Kelly Andrew’s Boston terrier Henry started breaking into their nursery and waking up her baby in the middle of the night, she was “fed up.” She thought he was being a nuisance.
But that night, Kelly noticed that her baby wasn’t breathing. Her daughter was rushed to the hospital – and Kelly realized that Henry was not causing distress but was trying to save the baby’s life.
The dog somehow instinctively realized that something was wrong. By keeping the child awake and helping to alert her parents, Henry probably saved her life by allowing her to get medical attention before it was too late.
According to her mother, the child spent the night in the hospital and is now “feeling much better.” Kelly says she is “forever grateful” to her furry friend for his quick thinking.
Kelly also says her heroic dog Henry “bravely held down the fort all night, despite his fear of the dark.” She has now installed a baby monitor in the nursery so that Henry can alert her if anything is wrong – proving that sometimes our furry friends are the best protectors.
This goes to show that dogs are indeed man’s best friend!
Henry, the good dog, caught many people’s attention when his story went viral. People were amazed by Henry’s and other dogs’ instincts – some even shared their stories of how dogs saved lives… which sometimes seemed like lousy dog behavior.
“We couldn’t figure out why my service dog would come into my parents’ room a few times each night and sniff around my dad’s face,” said one woman. “She’d get pushed away, but she kept coming back. Eventually, we realized that she was trying to warn us that his pacemaker needed replacing.”
“My dog started howling in the middle of the night,” said another. “It was so annoying – I just wanted to sleep. But then I realized my carbon monoxide detector was going off, and we had to evacuate immediately.”
Dogs are amazing creatures! They have a sixth sense that often alerts them to danger – even when we can’t sense it ourselves. So if your dog is acting up in the middle of the night, don’t just brush it off as bad behavior. They could be trying to save your life.
