A little kitten was alone on the sidewalk, her paws burned by hot tar from the asphalt. The little kitten was rescued in Hawkesbury, Ontario, and quickly rushed to her foster mom Melissa from Tiny But Mighty Kitten Rescue.
Weighing only 82 grams, she immediately began round-the-clock feeding. She placed the little orphan in an incubator where she would be quarantined for two weeks to ensure she didn’t have anything she could pass on to the other kittens and cats in her foster home.
Melissa soon became concerned when her newcomer didn’t put on any weight. Shortly after the kitten entered her care, she noticed how bare the tiny its feet were. Taking a closer look during the weighing, she realized the probable cause – the little kitten had been trying to walk on his burned paws.
“She was found alone, on a sidewalk, in the sun… so it makes sense why her back paws look burnt and sore. This poor baby girl has had such a rough start to life.” — said Melissa.
As her paws healed, the little girl began to grow. One day, Melissa caught her trying to climb out of the incubator, hoping it was a sign that her health was improving.
After two weeks of care, the kitten – now named Phoenix – was ready to be introduced to the other kittens in his foster home. It was clear that he had been through a lot, but he was a fighter and didn’t let anything stop him from living his best life.
At only two weeks old, this little girl is doing fantastic – she’s gaining weight, drinking 10ml per feed (every 3 hours), and loves getting her belly rubbed.
When her baby girl turned two weeks old, her quarantine was almost over, and it was time to meet June’s mom and find out if she would become part of a new cat family. Melissa was excited to introduce herself to the other kittens in her foster home.
“She is the tiniest, most delicate thing I have ever seen, but she has the biggest heart and personality. I am so in love with this little girl!” — said Melissa.
The meeting went very well. Phoenix made friends with all her siblings and continued to gain weight. Soon, her eyes opened to see her new family playing around with her new siblings. She is now happy and healthy, still enjoying bottle feedings and belly rubs.
