Rosie was just a tiny kitten when she was nearly dead near some outbuildings in Potterspool. She had a profoundly infected eye and was fighting for her life. Fortunately, a group of cat-loving volunteers and their local vet were able to help Rosie make a full recovery and find a loving home.
Brenda, a trap, neuter, and return volunteer, was the first to respond and drove to the countryside, where tiny Rosie was sleeping on a rock in the sun.
The timid kitten first ran away under nearby vehicles, into ditches and undergrowth.
Carefully and slowly, Brenda approached the kitten to pick her up. The kitten was petrified, blue-grey in color, long-haired–and very tiny. When Brenda picked her up, she was immediately rushed to a foster carer who would take her straight to the vet.
With Teresa Allaway’s over ten years of experience caring for foster cats, she was the next best person to help Rosie. She knew that time was not on their side and got Rosie the aid she needed from Spinney Veterinary Hospital. They gave Rosie the medical care she needed during hours on Saturday night and performed surgery early Sunday morning to remove her eye.
If Rosie had not been found when she was, she likely would have died because that is typically the age when kittens leave their mothers.
The surgery was a success, and with the help of antibiotics and a strong anesthetic, the young cat slowly recovered under the care of Paula Francis.
Paula dedicated herself to taking care of Rosie from the days immediately following her surgery. She hand-fed chicken to regain strength and appetite, reminded her how to be a kitten again through play and companionship, and stayed by her side as she healed.
“When we first got her, we knew her life was hanging in the balance. So to see her playing with her pet and hear how much she’s enjoying life now is heartwarming and truly affirming. Our little Rosie was a true phoenix that rose from the ashes.”
Rosie is now a healthy and happy kitten who loves to play and cuddle with her new family. She has been through so much in such a short time, but thanks to the dedicated volunteers and staff at Cats Protection, she is thriving in her new home.
