The New Orleans Fire Department arrived on the scene of a burning building shortly after the fire started in the afternoon. Two local cats managed to escape unharmed by quickly extinguishing the flames and rescuing anyone (or any animal) that might be trapped.
A rescuer found an unresponsive cat in the hallway, most likely due to smoke inhalation. The orange-striped cat was renewed in minutes and given a second chance at life thanks to the oxygen therapy mask. Luckily, the firefighters had it because not everyone has it.
The cone-shaped design of these masks fits both dog and cat faces. A large rubber seal at the base allows for a continuous, precisely directed flow of oxygen. This provides a snug fit while keeping their jaws closed, making recovery much more comfortable and practical.
Doug Cardinale of the New Orleans Fire Department said, “I think he has eight more lives. We’re glad this kitty made it out alive!”
His owner was happy that the cat was saved. She cried and hugged her little friend.
The fire is still under investigation, but it is believed to have started in the kitchen, one of the apartments. Careless cooking was most likely the cause of this blaze. We hope everyone involved in this incident can recover and move on from this tragic event.
If you have a pet, creating a fire safety plan in an emergency is essential. This should include having a designated meeting spot outside and investing in a pet-friendly fire alarm. You can never be too prepared!
