The Cat Saw the Poisonous Snake Creeping Up on the Children: His Reaction Was Instant

In a tragic turn of events, an Australian family’s cat died after saving his two young children from a poisonous snake. According to Animal Welfare Australia’s Facebook page, Arthur the cat was following his two young children around their yard when an eastern brown snake, possibly the deadliest snake in the country, crept up on them. Arthur reacted.

“Arthur sprang into action, protecting his young family by killing the snake. Unfortunately, in the process, Arthur received a fatal venomous snake bite.”

The cat fainted immediately after the bite but was able to regain consciousness quickly. But the following day, he fell again and could not get up. His family took him to the nearest animal care service, but he could not recover.

The journal explains that more people die each year in Australia from Eastern brown snake bites than any other group of snakes. Their venom is the second most toxic of all land snakes, and they’re known to thrive near human settlements, especially on farms where mice live.

It’s a tragic story, but Arthur, the cat, is being hailed as a hero for his quick thinking and bravery. His family will surely never forget him. Here we have to be clear: Arthur did not just save his little brothers and sisters from a poisonous bite; he probably saved their lives.

In memory of Arthur – Animal Welfare Australia would like to remind everyone to be vigilant when outdoors, especially during snake season. If a snake or your pet bite, please seek medical attention immediately.

Arthur’s story is a tragic reminder of how dangerous snakes can be and the bravery and selflessness of our furry friends. Rest in peace, Arthur. You will be missed.
