Herman, the Tabby Cat, has a story that will melt your heart. This beautiful orange cat is unique because he has a slightly crooked lower jaw, one canine, and is so shaky that he can’t walk. But Herman never stops smiling and purring. All he needs is a second chance.
“Herman is a sweet and happy orange tabby with cerebellar hypoplasia, or CH,” Milo’s Sanctuary said. “CH is a neurological condition that affects the coordination of movements. Herman also has a deformed jaw, which explains his famous ‘tooth’ protruding in his mouth’s lower left side. He may also be partially blind.”
One foster took Herman into her home and cared for him until Milo Shelter decided to give Herman a permanent, loving home. Herman is living his best life at the sanctuary, with plenty of love and care surrounding him.
“Herman enjoys belly rubs and rolls over on his side or back to let us know he wants one.”
After a year of rubbing his belly and scratching his head, Herman began bending one paw and then curving it forward.
“As he slowly repeated this movement, Going back and forth… I then realized Herman was kneading; or “making cookies.” In the two years we’ve had him, it was the first time seeing Herman attempted to knead with his paws. For a cat with special needs like Herman, just coordinating his movements is an impressive feat requiring lots of effort. Being able to experience this moment alongside him filled my heart with warmth.
I’m so grateful that Herman came into our lives and has brought us so much joy. His story is about hope, resilience, and, most importantly, love. We hope his story will inspire others to open their hearts to needy animals because every animal deserves a chance at a happy life, just like Herman.
Although others may see Herman as ugly or weird, we think he is perfect and beautiful. He has a great personality and loves life.”- said Patsy from Milo’s shelter.
