Hungry Cat Was Ready to Pounce on Anyone Who Passed By, Until a Neighbor Called the Rescue

In a heartwarming story, an animal rescue group in Goshen, Indiana, recently saved a cat who was left to starve after her owners moved out of their home.

The poor cat had been left with only a cardboard box for protection from the elements, and she was starving when the rescue group found her. Thankfully, they found three adorable kittens who also needed rescuing.

After receiving a call from some neighborhood children, the Catnip Etc animal rescue group hurried to the scene. Rescuers decided to lure the cat out with food. They opened a tin of canned food in the carrier and left it.

The cat heard the sound of the can being opened and came running to eat, not to guard her kittens. She had gone hungry for a long time. The rescuers discovered three tiny kittens, who, after some time, joined their mother.

She was named Gelato, and her three tiny kids were Cresicle, Sherbert, and Fudge.

Mama Gelato quickly adapted to her new surroundings and looked relieved to be able to focus on being a mom. That meant caring for kittens rather than trying to survive after being abandoned by a family she thought she could trust.

Eventually, after vets treated them all for pests, they were flea-free.
The kittens started to grow, their eyes opened, and they began to take their first steps. They were playful and loved to explore.

The kittens will stay until they are old enough to be weaned, continuing to socialize so they can grow into healthy young cats. Mama Gelato will also be spayed and put up for adoption once her kittens are weaned.

Stories like this remind us why we do what we do. Animal rescue groups provide an essential service, and we’re so glad that this cat and her kittens were able to find their way to safety.
