It’s a miracle story of resilience and love: after living her whole life on the streets, a chintz cat finally gave birth to eight kittens at home, away from the streets.
While the cat was tending to her three-month-old kittens outside, she discovered she had become pregnant again with another litter. A few days after she was rescued, the cat went into labor and gave birth to eight kittens. “She had lived outside her whole life and was covered in fleas when she first came to us,” said Angela Su, a foster volunteer at the rescue. Now, the mother cat and her 11 kittens are safe, warm, and loved – proof that even the roughest of beginnings can lead to a happy ending.
While her previous kittens were quickly given away, the mother cat needed a foster home where she could adequately care for her extremely demanding newborns. Angela took in a family of 8 and provided them a pleasant place to stay.
Celeste was a stray cat that spent her entire life on the streets until she moved into a house with her kittens for the first time.
“She was a great mom, despite everything she had been through,” said Angela.
The mother cat and her kittens are now living in a loving home, safe from the dangers of the streets. They are yet another example of how even the roughest beginnings can lead to a happy ending – thanks to the kindness of strangers.
“At first, she was a little nervous about being in my house,” shared Angela. “She’s lived outside her whole life, and so many things were new to her.”
Celeste was grateful to her foster mom for the bed, buffet, and help, as it was tough enough feeding eight mouths by herself.
“She’s such a sweet cat, and she’s come so far,” said Angela. “It’s been amazing to watch her transform from a street cat into a house cat.”
“Having eight children is tough and tiring, but she is an amazing mother to her kittens. Celeste is very patient; she makes sure all of them are clean and well-nourished,” Angela said admiringly.
“She often lies down for over an hour to feed them. Sometimes I bring her dinner or breakfast so that she can eat while in bed taking care of her kittens.”
Some kittens were born with short curled tails, while others arrived with a lot of sass. The newborns swiftly learned to hiss when they sensed an odd smell.
“Kittens this age rely on their sense of smell to navigate the world. When they detect an unknown fragrance, they typically instinctively hiss.”
