When animal control officers in Idaho Falls, Idaho, were called to pick up an injured cat over the weekend, they had no idea of the horrors that awaited them. The poor seven-year-old orange tabby had been doused in motor oil and left for dead. Vets at the local animal shelter quickly rushed to rescue him, but it was going to be a close call.
The cat, Slick, was immediately sedated and shaved so he could be given a much-needed bath. It was clear that he had been trying to clean himself by licking his fur, but in doing so, he had swallowed a large amount of motor oil. It puts him at risk for serious health complications, including liver damage.
“Slick was brutally doused in motor oil before he came into our care,” the shelter commented on Facebook.
Thankfully, the skilled vets at Northgate Veterinary Clinic were able to stabilize Slick, and he is now on the road to recovery. He still has a long way to go, but thanks to their quick action, he stands a chance of making a full recovery. Let’s hope that his story serves as a reminder of how cruel people can be and that there’s always hope for those who are mistreated.
Instead of mistreating an unwanted animal, says Animal Services Manager Brown, people should contact animal control to handle their pet humanely.
“There’s no reason anyone would do that,” Brown said. “I don’t care what the situation is – we are here to help and could have taken the animal. It’s a shame someone decided to take out their anger on Slick.”
