It’s incredible how many cats can endure. If you’ve ever lost a cat, there’s hope they may find their way back to you.
A cat named Fergus walked 80 miles (ca. 129 km) home after being lost for 11 years. This story is surprisingly typical, as microchipped cats often find their way back to their families. When Fergus returned, he was “exhausted and sleepy the first night.” After that, he felt much better.
Fiona Mutter, the cat’s owner, believes he probably lived in another home before she took him in, seeing how healthy and happy he looks.
“His coat is so shiny and so friendly, he couldn’t have lived outside all this time,” she said. “Someone took good care of him.”
For years, she believed her cherished kitten had met an unfortunate end. Fergus, on the other hand, appeared to be doing just fine.
“He would sometimes meander and disappear for days at a time, but he never returned home one day. Regrettably, we surmised that something had happened to him,” she continued.
A generous-sized gray tabby named Fergus survived for 11 years as a stray near the recycling center. Anyone checking his microchip could link him back to his human mother, Fiona Mutter. Recently, a kind volunteer from the Cats Protection charity did just that and brought Fergus in for a check-up. They found him wandering around the recycling center, but maybe he was indoors before that.
Fergus was saved by the same organization many years ago.
“Fergus was adopted from Cats Protection as a kitten, and he was with us for four years before disappearing,” Mutter said. He’ll now be able to catch up on all the missed embraces and live with his new brother, Ozzie, another cat in the home at 15.
“I’m just so happy he’s at home, and I can’t thank Cats Protection enough,” Mutter said. “It shows that cats are independent creatures but never forget where they came from.”
Fergus’ story is a heartwarming reminder that our furry friends always think of us, even when we believe they are gone for good.
