Kolbe, the lone kitten, was taken into the Animal Welfare League of Arlington (AWLA) in Arlington, Texas, and given a new chance at life. The volunteers at the shelter quickly realized that Kolbe needed the company of other cats to socialize and become happy and healthy.
Lloyd, the tabby cat who had been abandoned and was dubbed after the Beatles song “Here, There and Everywhere,” was a little wild and needed a lot to learn. Kitten Lloyd exhibited symptoms of the single kitten syndrome, which causes the kitten to play roughly and have other behavioral issues. Specialized socialization with other cats is usually the most excellent assistance in situations like these.
He was also more aggressive when the wild cat was hungry or discovered anything that attracted his intense attention. He began to scream and wag his tail from side to side.
Then he met Kolbe, who came over to play with him, teach him about boundaries, and help him with his anxiety.
The tabby kitten imitated Kolbe and followed him everywhere, much to his delight.
“Children create a natural understanding of boundaries and good conduct from one other through play and the joint development process,” Lauren adds. “Lloyd is a little wild kid because he is an orphan, loner, and has just begun establishing his identity.”
Lloyd is still very much a kitten and will continue to need an adult cat around to help him learn and grow. But thanks to Kolbe, he is well on his way to becoming a happy, healthy, and well-adjusted cat!
