When Lua, the kitten, was found crawling outside in a yard, she had no idea that her life would change. She was dragging her back legs and moving onwards with all her might, just trying to make it through another day. A Good Samaritan took her in and wanted to help her the best they could, but soon realized that Lua’s needs transcended their resources. They connected with Emilie Rackovan, an animal rescuer who fostered orphaned baby animals.
“They reached out to me and I, of course, agreed to help,” Emilie shared.
Emilie took Lua to the vet, where they discovered she had congenital spinal Muscular Dystrophy (SMA). This meant that her spinal cord was not developing correctly, causing the muscles in her back legs to waste away. There was no cure for SMA, but Emilie was determined to give Lua the best life possible.
“I decided to foster her and give her a loving home for as long as she needed it,” Emilie said. “I didn’t know how long she would live, but I was going to make sure she knew love and happiness.”
Lua quickly adjusted to her new home and started scampering around like any other kitten. She loved to play and cuddle and didn’t seem to know or care that she was any different. Emilie was amazed by her resilience and determination.
“She is such a fighter,” Emilie said. “Every day, she amazes me with how much willpower she has.”
Lua’s story has inspired people all over the world. Her strength in the face of adversity is an inspiration to us all. Emilie is grateful to have been able to help Lua and give her a loving home.
“I feel so lucky that I was able to meet her and be a part of her story,” Emilie said. “She has truly touched my heart.”
