In the suburbs of Montreal, Canada, a disheveled cat was spotted needing help. Just before animal rescue volunteers found her, several good Samaritans tried to rescue another cat of the same age. They were believed to be sisters, but the other cat did not survive. Maud learned of the situation and made it her mission to free the remaining sister from the streets.
Mulan was skin and bones and had an upper respiratory infection. That night she had a roof over her head and plenty of food to fill her stomach.
“She was so afraid of people, she spat and hissed in the vet’s office,” said Nathalie Leduc, who helped rescue Mulan and her husband, Michel Roberge.
“The examination was difficult as she kept jumping over cupboards to escape.”
Once in stable condition, the vet discovered that Mulan was pregnant in the late-term. A few days later, Mulan entered labor and gave birth to her first child.
“She didn’t seem to know what to do and just left her baby there. We put the kitten on her stomach, and he started nursing immediately. She gave birth to her second child in a few hours, and we helped her find her mother’s milk, too.”
“Mulan is a great mother, despite her difficult start in life. She is very attentive to her kittens and very loving. We are so happy that we were able to save her and give her this second chance.”
Mulan and her kittens are cared for by Nathalie and Michel until they are old enough to be adopted.
Maud and Nathalie have been fostering Mulan and her kittens since they were born and are helping to socialize them so they can be adopted into forever homes. “It’s been amazing to see the transformation in Mulan,” said Nathalie.
“She’s gone from being this terrified little cat to a loving mother. She’s an amazing cast, and we’re so glad we could help her.”
