Mayim Bialik is a successful Hollywood actress, but she’s also an animal lover and advocate.
You know her as Blossom, or most recently as Amy Farrah Fowler from The Big Bang Theory, or maybe even as C.C. Bloom from “Beaches”. But there are two boys and three cats who call her Mom.
Mayim Bialik has been a cat lover since she was a child. When she was growing up, her family always had at least one cat. As an adult, she’s continued to love and care for cats.
Mayim is also an advocate for better treatment of cats. She’s spoken about the importance of spaying and neutering and has even helped raise money for low-cost spay/neuter clinics. She’s also a big supporter of trap-neuter-return (TNR) programs, which help reduce the number of homeless cats.
Mayim has done many incredible things for cats, not least the adoption of a kitten with special needs named Addie. Mayim first learned about the beautiful gray and white tabby and her special needs while appearing on a talk show in New York. One of the other segments featured Addie, a cat born without pectoral muscles, which needed surgery and could not keep her body upright. Instantly shocked by the kitten’s plight, Mayim told the producers that if no one adopted Eddie from the shelter by the end of her stay in New York, she would. And so she did.
Eddie underwent the surgery she needed, and then she and Mayim flew home to Los Angeles a couple of weeks later. Eddie is also partially deaf, so Mayim raises her voice during the conversation to ensure Addie hears her.
“She’s my little miracle kitty,” said Mayim of Addie. “Cats with special needs are often overlooked, but they can make the most loving and loyal companions.”
